Dr. Madhukar Shukla is Chairperson, Fr Arrupe Centre for Ecology & Sustainability and Professor (Strategic Management & OB) at XLRI Jamshedpur (India), and has keen research and teaching interest in the development sector and social entrepreneurship.
Madhukar has served as a member of the Advisory Council of University Network for Social Entrepreneurship (founded by Ashoka: Innovators for the Public and Skoll Center for Social Entrepreneurship, Oxford University), and also serves on the Advisory Board of National Social Entrepreneurship Forum. Madhukar is also a Member, Livelihood India Advisory Board, and is on the Research Advisory Committee of IRDC funded project on “Learning from Pro-Poor, Market-Driven Innovation in India” at Villgro Innovation Foundation.
He has been the Conference Coordinator for the National Conference on Social Entrepreneurship in 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012, has served on the Jury for the Microfinance Award ’07, instituted by PlaNet Finance, and has been a lead assessor for the India NGO Awards 2007, 2008 & 2009. Earlier, Madhukar has earlier served as President - National HRD Network (Eastern Region), Dean (Research) - Indian Society of Applied Behavioural Sciences (ISABS), as a member of the Academic Council of Academy of HRD, CII’s National Committee on Skill Development and HR and of the expert panel of Public Enterprise Selection Board for The Study of Competencies for CEOs.
He has authored more than 30 papers to professional journals in these areas and has published three books – Competing through Knowledge: Building a Learning Organisation (Response Books, 1997), Understanding Organisations (Prentice-Hall of India, 1996), and Developing Leadership in Global Era: HRD Perspectives and Initiatives (co-edited with Dr Udai Pareek and Uma Jain, McMillan India, 2005).
In 2011, he was awarded the Social Enterprise Academic & Research Award for his “significant contribution in shaping the ecosystem of social entrepreneurship in India” by Villgro Innovation Foundation and Center for Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship (IIT, Madras).
Madhukar holds a Masters degree in Psychology from Lucknow University and is a PhD from IIT, Kanpur. Prior to Joining XLRI in 1990, he has worked with National Productivity Council and Administrative Staff College of India, Hyderabad. He was also a visiting faculty to ESADE, Barcelona during 1993-94.
